SANTA BARBARA COUNTY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL DEATH OF A PERSON WITH COVID-19

46 New Confirmed Cases Also Reported

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) — Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting the twenty-second death of a resident who tested positive for COVID-19. The individual resided in the City of Santa Maria and was in their 60s with underlying health conditions. This death is not related to the outbreak at Country Oaks Care Center. As of today, there are 2,115 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Santa Barbara County. 984 cases are at the Federal Prison in Lompoc, 1,037 are community cases, and 1,777 cases are fully recovered.

“We mourn the loss of another Santa Barbara County resident. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the individual’s family and friends. Reopening safely requires all of us to be considerate of each other and maintain at least 6 feet of space between us, wear face coverings to protect those around us, and be diligent about washing our hands often and avoid touching our faces” said Van Do-Reynoso, Santa Barbara County Public Health Director.

Although most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, PHD recommends additional measures to prevent exposure among vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, immunodeficiency, asthma, COPD and others). PHD recommends that residents, especially those who are vulnerable:

  • Stay home when possible
  • When engaging in tasks away from home, remain six feet away from others and wear a face covering.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
