Status Report Archive August-September 2020

Santa Barbara County has 9197 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to date.

Daily Status Report:

  • Reporting Dates – The State of California data websites have different reporting times for test results and positive cases.
  • Quality Assurance – Santa Barbara County Public Health actively engages in QA efforts to ensure COVID-19 data is being accurately reported to the public. On occasion this may mean that data needs to be updated to reflect new guidance or to address potential data entry errors as well as reconciliations of data following state updates.

Race and ethnicity data presented prior to 9/25/20 was based on what was reported to the Public Health Department (PHD) by labs and providers and not reflective of additional information that was obtained by the PHD  through case investigations.  As of 9/25/20 race and ethnicity distribution were adjusted to include updated information obtained through case investigation.  Due to the nature and timing of what is reported to the PHD and time of case investigation, this data will continuously be adjusted to reflect the information obtained through the case investigation process as they are obtained.

9/30/2020- There is one death to report today. The individual resided in the Santa Ynez Valley region, was over 70 years old with underlying medical conditions and was not associated with a congregate care facility.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

9/23/2020- Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting two additional deaths of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. The residents were both 50-69 years of age with underlying  health conditions.  One resided in the City of Santa Maria and one resided in the Santa Ynez Valley.

9/22/2020- Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting an additional death of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The resident was over 70 years of age, had underlying health conditions, and resided in the Unincorporated Area of Goleta.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

9/22/2020- Three previously identified cases were removed.

One individual was over 70 years old and resided in the Santa Ynez Valley inclusive of the cities of Solvang and Buellton and the communities of Santa Ynez, Los Alamos, Los Olivos and Ballard. One individual was between the ages of 30-49 and resided in the area of the City of Santa Barbara and unincorporated area of Mission Canyon . Neither individual was a resident of a congregate care facility and both individuals had underlying medical conditions.

9/14/2020- Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting one additional death of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The Santa Barbara County resident  was 50-69 years of age, resided in the City of Santa Maria, had underlying medical conditions and was not associated with a congregate living facility.  

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

9/2/2020- Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting two additional deaths of persons who tested positive for COVID-19. Both residents were over 70 years of age and associated with an outbreak at a congregate care facility, and one had underlying health conditions.  One resident lived in the City of Santa Barbara and unincorporated area of Mission Canyon and one lived in the South County Unincorporated area.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

8/28/2020- Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting one additional death of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The resident was over 70 years of age, had underlying health conditions, and lived in a congregate care facility in the City of Santa Maria.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting one additional death of an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. The resident was over 70 years of age, had underlying health conditions, and lived in a congregate care facility in the City of Santa Barbara and Unincorporated area of Mission Canyon.

Deaths are reported when a death certificate is processed listing COVID-19 as a cause or a significant condition. The process can take several days and up to 2 months to finalize if pending Coroner verification.
